Look Good, Feel Better — And I Really Did
I went along to the Look Good, Feel Better workshop that my breast care nurse recommended. I’ve always been confident with makeup, but chemo changes the game — especially when you’re losing your hair, and you know your eyebrows and eyelashes are next on the hit list. I needed some fresh tips, a confidence boost, and maybe a little magic.
Conveniently (or chaotically), the workshop was the same day as Round 3 of chemo — three hours beforehand. So yes, I was about to turn up to chemo looking fully glammed, like I’d accidentally wandered into the wrong appointment.
When I arrived, I was the last one through the door, and the welcome I got was so warm and enthusiastic it felt like walking into a room full of old friends. The group was small, intimate, and instantly comfortable. I met other women on their own journeys, all at different stages, and we naturally fell into conversation — no pressure, no forced sharing, just real stories flowing because we were all in the same boat.
We had two lovely ladies guiding us through skincare during chemo (because wow, chemo really does hammer your skin). Then we moved on to makeup — techniques, tips, and a whole lot of laughter, and the best part every single product we used was gifted to us. A full bag of goodies, all donated by skincare and cosmetic companies who sponsor the program. It felt generous, thoughtful, and honestly a little bit exciting.
I walked out feeling lighter, brighter, and genuinely better — not just because of the makeup, but because of the connection, the kindness, and the reminder that even in the middle of all this, there are moments designed to lift you up. Below is the actual photo with a bit of dodgy background removal :)
